04 | 10 - Relax

Calm your mind and body.

How to activate your natural relaxation response.

Learn to relax more easily, more often.

Not only are you getting more stressed more often every day, often over little things, or things that will actually never happen.

You’re also not relaxing enough. All too often we try to switch off by keeping ourselves busy doing other things. We forget how much our mind and body just need rest. Not just while we’re sleeping but also when we get home after a busy day, or finally sit down after the kids have gone to bed.

Our productivity and performance are suffering as a result too. Regular breaks and restful lunchtimes are all too rare. Our always-on culture is playing havoc with our bodies and minds.

Luckily you can re-learn how to activate your bodies natural relaxation response and make it part of your routine.

Just 5 minutes of relaxation can completely change your mood. Try it at work to renew your energy levels. Or when you get home as you learn to let go of the day and enjoy your evening more.

3 things

1. Find somewhere quiet. (Or put on your headphones.)
2. Make yourself comfortable, preferably lying down
3. Focus on slow breathing with long exhalations.

Why not read about Herbert Benson who first coined the phrase, "Relaxation Response"?

Why not try this now?

  • Try breathing with your Do Breathe app for 5 mins.

  • (You can change the duration in Settings.)

  • Lie down somewhere quiet, close your eyes and listen to the sounds as you relax .

  • Notice how you feel after.
